Ghosted view or cutaway?

I thought I asked this one, but apparently not. Which is better ghosted view or cutaway? Both work for me. I think ghosting works if the outer shell of the object is well understood and common to the viewer: automobile, aircraft, etc...
But what do others think?

Matt,
Simply put, it depends on the information you are trying to convey. Both have their benefits. I believe that on Kevin Hulsey's site he explains the use of both. I'll try and post the link when I find it again...

Re: Ghosted view or cutaway?

Hey Matt,

That is an interesting question. I would say do whatever feels right and experiment. Many times I will use both, like this helmet series has the interior elements cut with the outer details ghosted over to complete the form. http://www.hatchillustrations.com/ICON- ... ustrations
